Macbeth revision webinar

For teachers in Ireland preparing their pupils for the Leaving Certificate in June 2023:

  • a webinar via Tralee Education Centre on thinking about and revising Macbeth. Free registration.

  • Monday 9th January 2023, 7.00-8.00pm.

  • I’ll be looking at practical ways of revising which strengthen understanding of the play.

  • These will all be directed at thinking, and thus embedding understanding securely. Some of the thinking will be challenging. Retrieval practice will be central.

  • None will include so-called ‘rote learning’, which I have previously argued has no place in the Leaving Certificate English course, and is ineffective.

  • They will include quotation flashcards linking in to class discussion, quotation retrieval grids to prompt effective pair-work, sequencing activities which test pupils’ knowledge of the play, modelling and more.

  • I will also suggest contemporary books, online resources and podcasts which will widen teachers’ knowledge of the play, their intellectual hinterland.
